Budget Calculation Methods

The Budget Calculation Methods can be set in Budget Definition form > Calculate Through field.  This field has a drop down arrow that when you click will open a predefined budget calculations.  Below are information that describes how each budget calculation works.

 

Open Year Amount

When you selected the Open Year Amount as the Calculate Through, you will be able to enter an Amount in the Type/Value field. You may Increase or Decrease the budget by the Amount you entered in the Type/Value field.

 

For example, the balance of the selected account in 2009 Period 1 (January) is $1,000.00 and you want to increase it by $200 for 2010. Just type 200.00 in the Type/Value field, select the Increase check box then click the Calculate button.

You would notice that your budget in 2010 Period 1 (January) is now $1,200.00.

Open Year Percent

When you selected the Open Year Percent as the Calculate Through, you will be able to enter a Percent in the Type/Value field. You may Increase or Decrease the budget by the Percent you entered in the Type/Value field.

 

For example, the balance of the selected account in 2009 Period 1 (January) is $1,000.00 and you want to increase it by 10%, (10% of 1,000.00 is equal to 100) for 2010.  Just type 10% in the Type/Value field, select the Increase check box then click the Calculate button.

You would notice that your budget in 2010 Period 1 (January) is now $1,100.00.

Other Budget Percent

When you selected the Other Budget Percent as the Calculate Through, the Source Budget field will be enabled and you will be able to enter a Percent in the Type/Value field. You may Increase or Decrease the budget by the Percent you entered in the Type/Value field.

 

For example, the balance of the selected account in 2009 Period 1 (January) is $1,000.00 and you want to increase it by 10%, (10% of 1,000.00 is equal to 100) for 2010.  Just type 10% in the Type/Value field, select the Increase check box then click the Calculate button.

You would notice that your budget in 2010 Period 1 (January) is now $1,100.00.

Set Amount

This method sets all the budgets of the Account to a specified amount in the Type/Value Field.

 

For example, you want to set all the budgets for 2010 to $2,500.00.  Just type 2,500.00 in Type/Value field then click the Calculate button

You would notice that your budget for all the periods in 2010 is now $2,500.00.

Yearly Amount

This method sets the value of each period to the given value in the Type/Value field divided by the number of Periods of the given Account.

 

For example, You want to set the yearly budget for 2010 to $24,000.00.  Just type 24,000.00 in Type/Value field then click the Calculate button

You would notice that each period has a budget of $2,000.00 ($24000/12periods).
